Menstrual health and hygiene practices
CCAW has organized Menstrual Hygiene sessions in the Indira Basti community, aiming to educate women about the significance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene and dispelling prevalent myths surrounding menstruation. Dr. Shashi Rani Dev, the Hon. Director of CCAW, and Shri Shashank Gupta, Proprietor “Gupta Distributors- Happy days” were the resource persons of the session. The presentation utilized an animated video, placing significant emphasis on the proper disposal of sanitary pads, recognizing the importance of environmentally responsible practices. Participants were educated on the potential hazards associated with improper disposal methods and were provided with guidance on safe and hygienic disposal techniques. The CCAW team of trainees has also conducted a survey on menstrual hygiene among girls and women to assess the current practices and identify prevailing myths, examining their potential impact on the health and well-being of the community members. By gathering this data, the team sought to highlight areas needing attention and to promote more informed and healthier practices surrounding menstrual hygiene. To foster empowerment, two women were encouraged to establish a sanitary napkin kiosk at their homes, with support from the proprietor of Happy Days Sanitary Napkins, Mr. Shashank Gupta. Through this collaboration, Mr. Gupta made the napkins available, offering a 20% margin to support the livelihood of these women. This initiative was aimed to support the livelihoods of the entrepreneurs while ensuring affordability for the women and girls in the community, thereby promoting better menstrual health practices.
