Message from Head of Department, Department of Social Work
Message from the Head of the Department
It gives me immense pleasure to note the remarkable progress made by the Centre for Child and Adolescent Wellbeing (CCAW), an important outreach initiative of the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi. The Centre has emerged as a vibrant platform that meaningfully integrates academic learning with community engagement, reflecting the Department's commitment to promoting the holistic wellbeing of children and adolescents from marginalized communities.
Under the able leadership of the Honorary Director, Prof. Archana Kaushik, and with the enthusiastic participation of our faculty, research scholars, and social work trainees, CCAW has undertaken a wide spectrum of preventive, promotive, educational, health, and psychosocial interventions. The Centre has successfully organized health and eye check-up camps, menstrual hygiene awareness programmes, educational and creative activities for children, skill development initiatives for trainees, and community support programmes such as blanket, clothing, and sanitary napkin distribution. These initiatives have not only addressed immediate needs but have also strengthened community awareness, resilience, and participation.
What makes CCAW truly distinctive is its sustained engagement with children, adolescents, parents, teachers, and community members through participatory and evidence-informed approaches. The Centre continues to provide a nurturing environment where children can learn, express themselves creatively, develop confidence, and realize their potential while simultaneously offering invaluable experiential learning opportunities to our students.
I congratulate Prof. Archana Kaushik and the entire CCAW team for their unwavering dedication, compassion, and professionalism in advancing the University's social responsibility. I am confident that the Centre will continue to expand its outreach, forge stronger community partnerships, and serve as a model of excellence in child and adolescent wellbeing through innovative, inclusive, and impactful interventions. I wish the Centre every success in its future endeavours.
CCAW Hon. Director’s Note
Dr. Archana Kaushik, Hon. Director
Centre for Child and Adolescent Well Being
Professor, Department of Social Work University of Delhi
It is with a deep sense of responsibility and enthusiasm that I take over as the Director of the Centre for Child and Adolescent Wellbeing (CCAW). I sincerely thank Dr. Shashi Rani Dev, my predecessor, for her valuable contributions in steering the Centre during its revival phase and laying a strong foundation for its renewed journey.
Founded in 1971 as a demonstration project of the Department of Social Work at the University of Delhi, CCAW has a proud legacy of working with children, adolescents, and their families. Building on this history, we now envision positioning the Centre as a dynamic knowledge hub and resource centre that not only provides services but also generates evidence, facilitates research, and contributes to policy and practice in the field of child rights and wellbeing.
Our future direction emphasizes:
• Research and documentation to create a strong evidence base on child and adolescent issues.
• Capacity-building and training for students, practitioners, teachers, and parents.
• Resource development and dissemination for schools, communities, and allied institutions.
• Advocacy for child rights, ensuring alignment with the Department’s vision and the global framework of child protection and development.
With the Department’s illustrious past and its continued leadership in social work education, CCAW is uniquely placed to serve as a bridge between academic knowledge and field realities. Together with faculty, students, and our community partners, we aspire to strengthen CCAW as a centre of excellence that upholds children’s rights and promotes holistic adolescent wellbeing.
I look forward to this collective journey of growth, learning, and meaningful impact.
